Puka Nacua is one of the most productive and successful receivers in the NFL right now, but would he be among the league’s top weapons if not for Matthew Stafford? If most of his success is credited to Stafford, then the time will come for the Los Angeles Rams to trade or part ways with Nacua, which will probably be shortly after the quarterback retires.
On the other hand, if Nacua is an elite weapon for any quarterback, then he’d be the perfect player to keep long-term for Ty Simpson.
It’s sort of like the chicken and the egg for...

Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. had what many would consider a breakout season in 2025. The defensive back posted a career-high 14 passes defended in 2025, and cut his penalty numbers back from a league-leading 17 in 2024 to just nine. However, many believe Porter Jr. is set to take another massive leap this season.
Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus listed 10 players that could make the jump to earning their first All-Pro in 2026, with Porter Jr. being one of those listed.
“Porter already looked dominant on a defense that finished near league average in passing success rate,...
Behind the Steel Curtain
The start of the 2026 NFL season is right around the corner, and one of the best things about the summer is the release of EA Sports’ latest edition of Madden. Before Madden NFL 27 becomes available, we decided to highlight a few teams we can’t wait to play with upon its release.
For the sake of this exercise, we’re going to exclude the obvious picks like the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears. Instead, we’re highlighting a few other clubs who deserve a little more love.
[Madden NFL 27 is available to preorder on...
When the Philadelphia Eagles finished the 2022 season ranked 2nd in defensive DVOA, much of the credit rightly went to a historic pass rush — 70 sacks, the third-most in NFL history through the regular season. But the coverage data tells an equally important story about how Jonathan Gannon built that defense, and it reveals a coordinator whose scheme evolved meaningfully over the course of the year in ways that go beyond the box score.
The most basic finding confirms what film study already suggested: this was a zone-based defense at its core. On early downs, the Eagles played zone...

Mike Reiss reports the Patriots are signing DT Isaiah Iton to a one-year deal.
Iton, 24, signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers following the 2024 NFL Draft. He was cut by the team coming out of the preseason and re-signed to the practice squad.
Tennessee brought Iton back on a futures deal but released him in April 2025. He then caught on with the Patriots but was waived with an injury designation in camp last year.
He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

NFL Trade Rumors
On Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterbacks and rookies, along with players rehabilitating pre-existing injuries, will report to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, ahead of the rest of the team.
That includes starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was only held out of 11-on-11 team periods during OTA and mini-camp practices. There has been no word on the possibility of Mahomes starting training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
On Monday, Albert Breer, Sports Illustrated’s senior NFL reporter, shared insight on the biggest storylines heading into training camp with Mahomes’ potential participation listed No. 2...

Ravens LB Teddye Buchanan suffered a torn ACL last year, cutting his rookie season short after 14 games.
Speaking on 105.7 The Fan, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta believes they will see Buchanan “sooner than later” and said his rehab was among the top one percent of all rehabs he’s seen during his time with the team.
The standard timeline for a torn ACL is nine to 12 months after surgery. Buchanan’s injury was in early December and he had surgery about a month later in early January, which would ordinarily put him back at some point after Week 1.
However,...

I can already smell the freshly cut grass. I can hear the players' barks, grunts and screams of excitement. I can feel the August sun. Training camp is almost here. So before we look ahead to the 2026 season, let's make sure we take stock of the offseason, which will inform what comes next. I've been on paternity leave, and I can't wait to hit on a few controversies and blockbuster trades. There's nothing better. This is "Sound Smart," where I try to spin forward,...

The Pittsburgh Steelers added depth to their interior offensive line ahead of training camp, signing former Michigan center Greg Crippen as an undrafted free agent. Crippen earned his contract following a successful tryout at the team’s rookie minicamp. With veterans firmly entrenched ahead of him, the rookie faces an uphill battle but arrives focused on securing a developmental role on the roster.
The 6-foot-4, 309-pound lineman brings an impressive resume of persistence and high-level college experience to Pittsburgh. After patiently waiting behind future NFL draft picks in Ann Arbor, Crippen ultimately anchored the Wolverines’ front five, starting all 13 games...
Finding a franchise quarterback in the NFL isn’t easy. Look at the Pittsburgh Steelers. They’ve only had two signal callers at that level in their nearly 100-year history. Ben Roethlisberger is more recent, and his stats might earn him more praise, but Terry Bradshaw was also one of the best quarterbacks of his generation. University […]
