The San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants have some similarities this season.
They’re both coming off their worst loss of the season, at least in terms of point differential, because the Giants’ worst loss of the season was when they allowed 33 fourth-quarter points to the Broncos. Both teams are dealing with injuries to two of their best players: the 49ers on defense and the Giants on offense.
But the significant difference between the two teams is their records. The 49ers sit at 5-3 and are still competing in the NFC West, while the Giants are 2-6 and have...

The 49ers are aiming to bounce back from a hugely underwhelming Week 8 display when they face the New York Giants on the road.
San Francisco is favored to improve to 6-2, but victory is far from a given for the 49ers considering their injuries and the issues that are afflicting them on both sides of the trenches.
There have been suggestions the 49ers could look to address their lack of pass rush by striking a trade for one of New York’s stable of pass rushers, with Kayvon Thibodeaux mentioned as a potential target.
But would the Giants be willing...

The San Francisco 49ers look to get back into the win column with a trip to the Meadowlands to square off with the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. The last visit to MetLife was during 2020, and while the 49ers left with a victory, it came at the expense of a season-ending injury to Nick Bosa. The two teams met in 2023 at Levi’s Stadium for the 49ers’ home opener, and the 49ers dispatched the Giants 30-12. Including the playoffs, the 49ers hold a 22-21 record over the Giants all-time.
Now, the 49ers and Giants turn the page on...

49ers QB Brock Purdy doing more at practice this week as recovery continues
“Brock is getting better. I know that,” 49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak said on Thursday, before the team was set to practice. “He’s doing more this week. He’s taking a few more reps. We’ll let the week play out and see how it goes.”
Keion White opens up about joining 49ers, expectations
“”I compare football to corporate America,” White said. “Like, you just got a new job, and I’m going to another office where I’m learning the system…..No knock to the guys over there (in New...

The San Francisco 49ers are nearing their Week 9 contest against the New York Giants on Sunday, and the injury report has been revealed for Thursday’s practice.
Brock Purdy remained a limited participant in practice. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak was mum on who the starter would be against the Giants, while pointing out that Purdy has been taking more reps this week.
“Brock’s getting better, I know that, which is good,” Kubiak said on Friday. “He is doing more this week. He’s taking a few more reps. We’re going to let the week play out and see how it goes.”...

The San Francisco 49ers have been spread thin across the defensive line recently, losing several rotational pieces to multi-week injuries.
San Francisco has been without defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, who suffered a hamstring injury and hasn’t played since Week 5. Then, Bryce Huff suffered a hamstring injury on the final defensive play against the Atlanta Falcons. To make matters worse, Sam Okuayinonu suffered an ankle injury against the Houston Texans this weekend.
All three players did not practice on Wednesday.
The lack of depth, as well as a need for pass-rushers, sparked the team to trade for New England Patriots...

For much of the season, the San Francisco 49ers have been in the top three when it comes to playing time for rookies. Nobody would have guessed that Connor Colby would have played the most snaps among all of the first-year players through eight weeks. And if you thought Marques Sigle would be second, you’re either a liar or a Kansas State alum.
The team is putting a lot on its first-round pick, Mykel Williams, who played a season-high in snaps against the Texans last week. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he wishes the Niners could take some of the...

The San Francisco 49ers haven’t had their 2024 first-round pick in a month. Despite missing the previous four games, Ricky Pearsall is still 29th in total EPA among all wide receivers and seventh in DVOA.
Pearsall bailed out the 49ers’ offense when they were stagnant. They haven’t had the same luxury in October. Not having a big-play threat or a go-to guy is one of the primary reasons the 49ers have looked lackluster offensively. Pearsall has as many 20+ yard receptions as A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Zay Flowers, and Marvin Harrison Jr. He was at the top of that...

Eddy Pineiro has still only missed one kick since signing with the 49ers, and he received recognition for his consistency on Thursday.
Pineiro has yet to miss a field goal in his time with San Francisco, going 17 for 17, with his sole failure coming on his opening extra point for the team back in Week 2.
He went 10-for-10 on field goals in October and was also perfect on his six extra points, the highlight of his superb performances this month being a 59-yarder in the overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.
And Pineiro’s reliability...

The 49ers have already made one trade they hope will improve a struggling defensive line with the acquisition of Keion White from the New England Patriots, but the consensus is they will try to strike another deal before Tuesday’s deadline.
It is expected the defensive front will continue to be the focus for San Francisco. White brings useful positional flexibility in being able to operate inside and out, but the 49ers would greatly benefit from adding another pure edge rusher in the absence of Nick Bosa.
Trey Hendrickson reportedly remains on the 49ers’ radar even as the Cincinnati Bengals seemingly...

The San Francisco 49ers started the trade deadline carousel early, swinging a deal with the New England Patriots for defensive lineman Keion White, swapping 2026 sixth and seventh-round picks in the process.
The 49ers needed defensive linemen after the season-ending injury to Nick Bosa, and that need was only exacerbated with the recent injuries to Bryce Huff (hamstring), Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring), and Sam Okuayinonu (ankle).
They’d been actively interested in the trade market, with reports surfacing that San Francisco would be interested in several key names, including Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan and general...

The San Francisco 49ers’ defense didn’t have a great performance in the team’s 26-15 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, as they couldn’t contain quarterback C.J. Stroud, who had his best game of the year.
Still, they’ve been one of the NFL’s best defenses this year, ranking inside the top 10 in points per game. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has been the leader of the charge, working with a group that has lost stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, and is starting several first and second-year players at key positions.
San Francisco’s pass rush has struggled this year, especially...
