NFC Notes: Ben Johnson, Dan Campbell, J.J. McCarthy, Bears, Lions, Vikings

Bears/Lions

The Lions’ 50-burger wasn’t necessarily out of the ordinary for a Detroit team that has been a top-five offense for the past three years. But this time was different because former OC Ben Johnson wasn’t at the wheels with a play sheet, he was on the opposite sideline as the head coach of the Bears. Lions S Brian Branch told reporters Johnson “could have went anywhere” and it wasn’t lost on the building that he chose a division rival. There definitely was a sense after the game that the Lions were sending a message.

Are the Eagles the new Chiefs? This NFL Insider thinks so

For the second time in 2025, the Philadelphia Eagles went up against the Kansas City Chiefs and secured a victory.

Facing off against former head coach Andy Reid in a heat battle, this time in enemy territory, the Eagles did just enough on offense, dominated on defense, and even picked off Patrick Mahomes at a key moment to rob Kansas City of any momentum down the stretch, with rookie Andrew Mukuba coming close to matching Cooper DeJean’s Super Bowl pick-6 if it wasn’t for a late tackle by left tackle Jonathon Simmons.

NFL insider ‘concerned’ by JJ McCarthy’s lack of reps due to injury

NFL insider ‘concerned’ by JJ McCarthy’s lack of reps due to injury

The Minnesota Vikings sit at 1-1 overall with JJ McCarthy leading the offense. McCarthy won over his team and Vikings fans by leading an epic Week 1 comeback over the Chicago Bears. But now there’s new concerns as one insider pointed out.

McCarthy is now dealing with a high ankle sprain following Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He’s expected to miss up to four games. Minnesota and head coach Kevin O’Connell can breathe some relief as McCarthy’s injury isn’t similar to his torn ACL of 2024.

Yet a former NFL player turned analyst/insider expressed being “concerned” Monday for McCarthy....

Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase makes humble gesture after monster game vs. Jaguars

The Cincinnati Bengals may have walked away with a dramatic 31-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, but it’s what happened after the game that made headlines. While superstar wide-receiver Ja’Marr Chase delivered a dominant performance on the field, his actions off the field showed leadership that went far beyond stats.

Chase finished with 14 catches for 165 yards and a touchdown—his most productive game to date with Jake Browning under center. But instead of highlighting his own performance, the 2024 first-team All-Pro wideout took to his Instagram story to shine a spotlight on his teammates. He shared a picture of...

Ben Johnson saw ‘significant’ growth’ in Caleb Williams despite 31-point loss

The Chicago Bears’ 31-point loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday was as painful as it got. Many are pointing the finger at coach Ben Johnson for not developing a comprehensive offensive strategy, which led to a poor performance.

Altogether, the Bears turned the ball over numerous times, their offensive line was intact, and they weren’t able to convert on fourth down.

However, there was one silver lining that emerged and that was the performance of QB Caleb Williams. Altogether, Williams accumulated 207 passing yards, including two touchdown passes, in the 52-21 defeat.

Johnson gave praise to Williams for “significant...

AFC Notes: Joe Burrow, Jake Browning, Bengals, Browns, Steelers

Bengals

Word came through on Monday morning that Bengals QB Joe Burrow would indeed need surgery for a severe turf toe injury, sidelining him for at least the next three months. It’s a crushing blow for him after entering the season completely healthy for the first time in a long time, and it’s obviously a big blow for the Bengals to try and replace a top-five quarterback. But WR Ja’Marr Chase said none of their opponents are going to care.

“It’s a rollercoaster,” Chase said via Geoff Hobson of the team’s website. *“Every game is going to be a...

Enemy Reaction 2025: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Seattle Seahawks were a half away from a disappointing 0-2 start, with much of their wounds self-inflicted. With their backs against the wall, Seattle unleashed one hell of a second half against the Pittsburgh Steelers, outscoring them 24-3 and getting a 31-17 victory to spoil the home debut of Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey, and other big-named acquisitions throughout the offseason.

It’s time for Enemy Reaction! Steelers fans are loud, proud, and always down for a meltdown when things don’t go their way. Game thread comments are courtesy of Behind the Steel Curtain. If you’re new to this...

Bengals’ perfect Shedeur Sanders trade offer to Browns after Joe Burrow injury

Bengals’ perfect Shedeur Sanders trade offer to Browns after Joe Burrow injury

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has a toe injury that will keep him out for at least three months. It is yet another unfortunate injury setback for one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Without Burrow, the Bengals will likely struggle. They have a poor defensive unit and an underwhelming offensive line, the latter of which might make life hard on whoever lines up under center until Burrow returns.

Jake Browning is the team’s starting quarterback for now. Browning has had success when he has stepped up in relief of Burrow before, but he is still widely regarded as...

Chargers Place LB Denzel Perryman On IR

Denzel Perryman suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 1, ensuring he would miss time. To little surprise, the veteran linebacker now finds himself on injured reserve.

Perryman was moved to IR on Monday, per a team announcement. Tonight’s matchup against the Raiders will mark the first of at least four games he will be required to miss.

The linebacker was limited to only eight defensive snaps in Week 1 before exiting the contest with his injury. The team kept the door open to a quick return, although the writing was on the wall when Perryman didn’t practice during the...
