Surveying fan opinions on the Panthers draft value
The Carolina Panthers had a wild draft weekend where they somehow walked out of it having made 1) a pick in a every round—including, somehow, in the first round; 2) only one of their own original picks; and 3) a trade that netted them a 2025 2nd round pick from the Los Angeles Rams. Objectively, they made some pretty good trade decisions, a couple questionable ones, and made it out of the draft with a greater wealth in picks than they entered with. The biggest controversy amongst fans is, as always, over...
New faces abound after an offseason focused on talent infusion
After a trade-filled free agency and draft, the 2024 offseason has seen what is, perhaps, the largest overhaul to receiving talent in Carolina Panthers history.
2023 free agency acquisition Adam Thielen was the lone bright spot for the Panthers last year. He caught 103 catches for 1014 yards and 4 touchdowns on 137 targets.
This season is set to feature new faces at wide receiver, such as former Pittsburgh Steeler Diontae Johnson and 2024 first round draft pick Xavier Legette.
Meanwhile, at tight end, the Panthers picked up Ja'Tavion Sanders...
Now that the Panthers have new pieces for their 2024 puzzle, how do those pieces fit?
With the 2024 NFL Draft behind us, we now have the opportunity to look forward and predict how this draft class will fit into the current regime’s plans. Obviously the coaches and scouts believe these players fit in some form or fashion into at least one of the three phases, but let’s try to look at past trends from this coaching staff and guess what type of usage we can expect from the newest Carolina Panthers.
First up is the Panthers first round selection:...
Overall, your Benevolent Dictator is pleased with GM Dan Morgan.
As the Benevolent Dictator of Trade Down Island, the time has come for me to pass judgment on rookie GM Dan Morgan’s performance with draft day trades. Morgan and the Carolina Panthers brain trust made four trades during the draft - twice trading down and twice trading up - incurring both my glorious praise and my even more glorious wrath.
The economy of Trade Down Island runs on four commodities: coconuts, chickens, cows, and accumulating draft capital by smartly trading down. In my recap below I will either reward Dan...

The former 1st round pick is set to be a Panther for the next two seasons
Lost in the mix throughout Draft weekend, the Panthers have decided to pick up MY BOY’S 5th year option.
Horn is slated to make roughly $12.4 million in 2025, fully guaranteed. Horn has been an absolute stud and graded as one of the best corners in the NFL, while he is on the field. He’s only played in 22 games in three seasons due to injury, something that has hindered every season of his. After an amazing start to his rookie season, he suffered...
Live updates on the Panthers last, roster filling scramble of the offseason
The Carolina Panthers have completed their run of the 2024 NFL Draft, but that does not mean they are finished with adding to their roster this weekend. Now begins the annual melee for undrafted free agents.
These are the folktale heroes who we all believe can be solid depth pieces, contributors, starters, even hall of famers. Keep it here to see an updated list of the Panthers UDFA class. This will just be a running list of players, positions, and the schools they came from. We’ll dig in...
The Panthers made a concerted effort to give Bryce Young weapons around him to help him succeed.
The NFL Draft has concluded, and the Panthers have made their picks. They moved up and down the draft to get the players they wanted early, but stood pat in the later rounds once the dust settled after day two. They added to positions of need, however that wasn’t hard to do given the abundance of need across the board for the team. Lets dive in.
The Panthers added a dynamic playmaker who specialized in...
The Carolina Panthers have selected linebacker Michael Barrett with the 240th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This Michigan product is an undersized, but hard hitting linebacker whose future in the NFL is going to be as special teams guys.
He played in 64 college games in five seasons, amassing 208 tackles, 12.5 for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He also had two interceptions, one for a touchdown, and four forced fumbles.
Barrett’s athletic profile leaves a lot to be desired and his play instincts apparently don’t make up for that. He plays fast and hits hard, we’ll see if...
The Panthers add some beef up front with their penultimate draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Carolina Panthers have selected Jaden Crumedy with the 200th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Crumedy spent a very long time at Mississippi State and will enter training camp as a 24 year old rookie. He was a five year starter for the Bulldogs and totaled 8.5 sacks and 16 tackles for a loss during his time there. He’s very large and strong, but he hasn’t shown the agility or elusiveness to be a productive pass rusher on the inside. However,...
Carolina picks up some secondary help
The Carolina Panthers have selected cornerback Chau Smith-Wade with the 157th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Washington State product and Colorado native has experience playing both corner and safety across 33 college games since his freshman year.
Smith-Wade is a slightly undersized corner at 5’11” with a limited athletic profile. He also has only three interceptions to his name, with zero in his senior season. That said, his senior season, and potentially some of his athletic testing, was cut short by a shoulder injury.
He did show up to the [Senior...
The Panthers continue to add rare athletes to their roster
To kick off Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panther used pick number 101 to select Ja’Tavion Sanders, the athletic tight end from Texas. Despite being overshadowed by Xavier Woods and AD Mitchell, Sanders quietly had a good season that earned him first team All Big 12 honors. The 6’4”, 245-pounder ran a 4.69 forty at the NFL Combine. Sanders is definitely more of a receiving threat than an inline blocker, so he should mesh well with the current tight ends on the roster in terms of...
