The Detroit Lions have held their final practice of the preseason, a joint practice with the Houston Texans. Thursday was Day 17 of Lions training camp, and we have all the latest updates on the players’ injuries and their current statuses.

Still on injury lists:

At the beginning of training camp, Lions coach Dan Campbell informed the media that he was hoping that Josh Paschal would be able to return...

Video: Breaking down All-22 of Lions’ backup QB battle

Breaking down film of quarterback play is one of the tougher aspects of analyzing the game of football. These days, there is so much nuance to schemes and concepts in the passing game, making it hard to ascertain what the quarterback is supposed to be looking at, or in what order his progressions are supposed to be. With that said, there are still things to take away from the film of the Detroit Lions’ ongoing backup quarterback competition between Hendon Hooker and Kyle Allen.

Meko Scott and I got into the tape from the Lions’ second preseason game against the...

Dan Campbell provides new Josh Paschal injury timeline

When we last heard about the recovery time of Detroit Lions defensive end Josh Paschal, he was expected to return to practice around early September, according to coach Dan Campbell. However, it appears that the timeline has been pushed back. Campbell noted on Thursday that they’re not expecting him to return as soon.

“I think Paschal could be a little later than we’d hoped,” Campbell said. “So that could sting a little bit.”

Paschal is currently dealing with an unspecified injury, although Campbell did note earlier in camp that he had a clean-out surgery that pushed his initial timeline back....

Lions mailbag: How will the return of Khalil Dorsey, Mekhi Wingo impact roster cuts?

Lions mailbag: How will the return of Khalil Dorsey, Mekhi Wingo impact roster cuts?

The Detroit Lions roster saw the somewhat-unexpected return of two players from injury lists this week. Khalil Dorsey returned to practice on Monday, after spending all offseason recovering from a tibia and fibula fracture. The very next day, defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo came off the Physically Unable to Perform list following a torn meniscus late last season.

While neither is guaranteed to land a spot on the 53-man roster, the general consensus is that both are likely on solid ground. Dorsey has already taken first-team gunner reps on special teams, while Wingo is just entering his second season following a...

Lions GM Brad Holmes keeps dropping the same hint about roster cuts

In less than a week, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell will put their heads together and create an initial 53-man roster for the 2025 season. As always, it’s going to involve some very tough decisions, and it’s considered one of the most miserable days on the job for both.

As we continue to try and make our best predictions for what is going to happen, Holmes has been doing the media rounds. And if you’re paying attention, he keeps dropping the same exact hint about how they are going to approach these roster cuts a...

Discussion: What do you want to see from Lions vs. Texans joint practices?

The final day for Detroit Lions training camp has arrived, and it’s a big one. The Houston Texans are in town for a single joint practice. With an NFC contender vs. and AFC contender, it should be a much more competitive practice than what we saw last week with the ailing Miami Dolphins.

On Wednesday, we discussed some of the best matchups between the two teams to watch. Today, let’s talk a little more broadly. With the Lions starters expected to receive the majority of the reps on Thursday, it’s an opportunity for them to kick off the final rust...

Lions’ DJ Reader filling his cup giving back to Detroit

Between the lines, Detroit Lions defensive tackle DJ Reader is about as imposing as they come. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds, he has been one of the better interior run defenders in the league since being drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Seemingly impossible to block with one player, Reader demands double teams as much as anyone else in football, and will once again be a key cog in the middle of a Lions defense that has championship aspirations in 2025. Off the field—well, that is a completely different story.

A...

Fanduel Futures: Lions skill players offer plenty of options

With the 2025 NFL regular season just over two weeks away, plenty of analysts are rushing to get out their predictions for the upcoming season. Recently, we’ve made our game-by-game predictions for the Lions. ESPN has published a list of teams that may regress, and fantasy football sites all over the internet are ranking players based on their projected stats for the season.

While not directly fantasy football-related, the folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook also offer their own projections for offensive skill players across the NFL, and the Detroit Lions have several players spread out across those categories. But before...

2025 Detroit Lions projected to regress… but not by much

2025 Detroit Lions projected to regress… but not by much

Every year, ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell decides to create a list of the most likely teams to regress in the upcoming season. It’s an ominous list to be a part of, because as Bill points out, he’s more often right than not. Of his past 38 selections of teams likely to regress, 30 of them have.

His analysis is typically focused around a few critical statistics that typically don’t see year-to-year consistency: turnover margin, record in one-score games, injury rate, and strength of schedule. The argument being, if you fell on the lucky side of those stats in 2024, you’re...

Breaking down the 10 Detroit Lions rookie performances vs. Dolphins

As the preseason rolls onward, the Detroit Lions are going to use every chance that they can get to evaluate the backend of their roster. Once again, the team’s 2025 rookie class impressed. A total of 10 first-year players suited up in the preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins, and many of them made quite the case for a roster spot once the regular season begins.

Undrafted wide receiver Jackson Meeks put on a show for the second week in a row. The rookie who played for Georgia and Syracuse made the first reception of the game and went on...

Discussion: What will be the best matchup in Lions-Texans joint practices?

As training camp nears its end, the Detroit Lions will have one more day of quality work. On Thursday, they welcome the Houston Texans to their facility for a single day of joint practices. While reserves are looking for one of their final opportunities to prove they belong on the 53-man roster, Thursday will likely be more about the starters getting in good work. Joint practices are great for giving starters new looks, new opponents, and a chance to knock off rust in game-like situations.

And the Texans are a great team to measure up against. Not only was last...
