Seeing TV highlights of World Cup soccer (excuse me, football) matches at a nearly unrecognizable MetLife Stadium (excuse me, New York New Jersey Stadium) the past month, and watching the US Men’s National Team games played on the west coast, got me to thinking about parallels between that team and the New York Giants. For a moment I thought it was too far-fetched to write about (and that may well be the case, you can be the judge). What tipped the scales for me, though, was this tweet on X during the USMNT’s awful loss to Belgium that ended their...

When Arvell Reese dropped into the Giants lap, John Harbaugh immediately declared that he would be used as an inside linebacker.
BBV’s Chris Pflum pre-draft evaluation centered on edge defender and not a linebacker. Pflum went back into Reese’s tape to evaluate him purely as a linebacker. He concluded:
The Giants will have to be careful to avoid putting too much on Reese too soon and force him to wear too many hats. However, he showed an aptitude for processing a significant amount of information in [Ohio State University’s] defense, so he might be able to handle more than...

Hello readers! Enjoying the World Cup? So am I. But like many of you, I’m counting down the days until another type of football takes center stage.
Today’s column begins my 2026 Fantasy Football redraft rankings and tiers. RB, WR, and TE will follow, and I’ll update them in August, when season-long redraft season kicks in. Hopefully, these initial looks at each major position will help as you start to consider player values and draft strategies.
You can link to all my preseason fantasy content here, including all the rankings and tiers (once they’re posted), and much more.

New York Giants training camp in West Virginia will be a last chance for a group of highly-drafted players who have not met expectations to prove they belong. Let’s look at the chances guard Evan Neal, offensive lineman Josh Ezeudu, cornerback Deonte Banks, and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt will be part of the team in 2026.
Many were surprised when Neal, who did not play a snap for the Giants last season, was given another chance with the team by new head coach John Harbaugh. Knowing Harbaugh’s love for massive people, though, it probably should not have...

It was regarded as a surprise when Ohio State defender Arvell Reese fell to the New York Giants at No. 5 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Reese was widely projected to be drafted somewhere in the range of picks 2 to 4. And even then, Reese was not widely considered an option for the Giants because he was almost universally evaluated as an edge prospect in the mold of Micah Parsons and Abdul Carter.
And given that the Giants already boast Brian Burns, Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux at edge defender, the idea of them drafting another pass rusher was...

New York Giants edge defender Brian Burns has been selected as the ninth-best edge pass rusher in the NFL by ESPN.
ESPN said:
Burns put it all together in Year 7, finishing second in the league with 16.5 sacks on his way to a second-team All-Pro nod. The sack total was the highest by a Giants player since Jason Pierre-Paul in 2011.
BBV’s Chris Pflum was not thrilled that Burns was that low on the list. He wrote:
Someone go put this on Burns’ locker, because it’s about as disrespectful as a “Yo Momma” joke.
Let us know...

The pass rush is commonly cited as the New York Giants greatest strength, certainly on the defensive side of the ball. And that’s with good reason, as the Giants did in fact field one of the NFL’s most dangerous pass rushes, and were collectively fifth in pass rush win rate.
Their pass rush production was driven by Brian Burns, who had a monstrous career-best season. Burns had 16.5 sacks, 31 QB hits, 22 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, and 7 passes defensed last year.
That season was good enough for ESPN to rank Burns among [the NFL’s 10...

There will be competitions for both roster spots and playing time at most positions across the New York Giants roster during training camp. We will go through many of them between now and the first practice in West Virginia on July 29. Safety is one of the most interesting, so let’s start there.
The roster:
Jevon Holland, Tyler Nubin, Jason Pinnock, Ar’Darius Washington, Elijah Campbell, Raheem Layne (cornerback Nic Jones also has some safety flexibility)
Holland and Nubin are the incumbent starters. Neither, though, has played well enough to have locks on full-time...

We’re still solidly in the lull between the New York Giants off-season program and the opening of training camp at the end of July.
But there still seems to be an energy in the air, even as the dog days of summer drag on. Training camp, and with it real football and real football news, is getting closer by the minute. That will be when we first start to see the fruits of the Giants’ off-season and just how big a difference the roster churn and new coaching staff will make.
New head coach John Harbaugh has stated that the...

The New York Giants on Tuesday claimed a defensive tackle off waivers, and waived/injured a cornerback, proving once again that even on a lazy summer day, the NFL never truly sleeps.
The Giants have been awarded defensive tackle C.J. Ravenell off waivers from the Tennessee Titans. Ravenell was waived from injured reserve by the Titans earlier this week.
An undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western State, Ravenell played in 14 games with one start for the Titans last season. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder had six tackles and a forced fumble in just 97 defensive snaps.
Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson...

There is a definite sense of optimism surrounding the New York Giants, and real excitement for what the team can be in 2026.
The Giants are considered one of the most likely teams in the NFL to make the leap from worst to first and could challenge the Philadelphia Eagles for the division crown. The biggest reason for that is the arrival of head coach John Harbaugh, but the Giants have also had a strong off-season that may have brought upgrades to almost every position on the field.
The first priority for the Giants this off-season has been to build...
