After Kansas City’s fourth training camp practice, the special teams coordinator highlighted who has stood out.
On Friday, Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub held his first training camp press conference. Outside the battle happening on the offensive line, the highest‑profile competition is at punter.
Before training camp, the Chiefs signed undrafted USC punter Eddie Czaplicki to compete with Matt Araiza. Czaplicki won the 2024 Ray Guy Award as the best punter in college football.
“As far as the punters go, it’s a good competition,” said Toub. “I think we have two NFL...

Coming into the 2025 NFL season, one of the big topics is how the Kansas City Chiefs will respond to their brutal defeat by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
Former Kansas City safety Tyrann Mathieu is uniquely qualified to predict how the Chiefs will handle it. While with the team from 2019 through 2021, Mathieu was a big part of its Super Bowl LIV victory. A year later, the Chiefs suffered a similar blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers...

He’s determined to keep growing in 2025 — even with the potential distraction of a contract year.

Jamaal Charles on the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss: ‘It surprised me’ | NBC Bay Area
Charles believes the next-look unit will surprise people this season, largely because of the coaching staff — which he played for four seasons from 2013 to 2016.
“That’s something they always diagnose in the year before,” he explained, “they’ll go back and see what we did wrong, then try to correct it going into the (next) year.
“With getting (beat) that way from the Super Bowl, a lot of people will...

The Kansas City running back is happy to be back for another season with his old teammates.
In February of 2024, running back Kareem Hunt underwent sports hernia surgery. In March, the Cleveland Browns let his contract run out. So he continued his recovery — and hoped that an NFL team would need an experienced running back.
“I was in Cleveland,” the running back recalled on Thursday, speaking after the third practice of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2025 training camp. “I was hanging out with my family [and] taking my boat out every day.”
Still, he knew what he had...
The Kansas City safety credits Reid for his mentorship as he prepares for a more significant role in the secondary.
Heading into his fourth NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs’ safety Bryan Cook is quietly stepping into a new role. In the wake of veteran safety Justin Reid signing a new three-year, $31.5 million deal with the New Orleans Saints in the offseason, Cook is among those taking on a share of the secondary’s leadership responsibilities.
But don’t expect Cook to do it exactly like Reid did.
“I lead in my own way,” Cook told reporters on Wednesday. “We’ve got a...
