After injuries last year, the Kansas City running back wants to add more weight ahead of his pivotal fourth NFL season.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is approaching this offseason with a different mindset. While some players focus on slimming down to stay quick and lean, Pacheco is doing the opposite: adding weight to better withstand the physical toll of NFL seasons.
“Just going through injuries, I wanted to gain weight and be a little heavier,” Pacheco told reporters on Thursday. “To surpass and get better — and build off of this past year on the field.”

49ers should learn from Chiefs: stop making Super Bowl excuses | USA Today
Yet Thursday seemed to illustrate a – maybe the – major difference between these proud franchises and might even be the reason that the Kansas City Chiefs beat San Francisco in both of those Super Bowls while winning another and appearing in five overall since the start of the 2019 campaign.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, was asked about the challenge of resetting and resuming the relentless football grind after a...

After spending his rookie season on Kansas City’s Reserve/Injured list — and most of his second season on the practice squad — the former Fresno State wide receiver finally got on the field for the...
Last offseason, Kansas City largely took care of its own.
Fresh off becoming back-to-back champions with a win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, the Kansas City Chiefs largely planned their offseason around keeping the band together for a bid at a three-peat.
The team got a head start on free agency shortly before the league year began, re-signing star defensive tackle Chris Jones to a monster 5-year contract. Including $95 million in guaranteed money, it was — by far — the richest defensive contract of that offseason.
Not surprisingly, giving market-topping money to Jones left the...
Kansas City’s second-year wideout spoke to reporters after Thursday’s OTA session.
When reporters were allowed to watch the first open practice of the Kansas City Chiefs’ organized team activities (OTAs) on Thursday, the presence of wide receiver Xavier Worthy loomed large. As a rookie during last year’s OTAs, Worthy was largely sidelined while recovering from a hamstring injury.
But even though he wasn’t participating, he was learning.
“Mentally,” the second-year pro explained after practice, “I feel like I’m the same as last year. It’s just the physical aspect. Last year, I was hurt — and this year, I’m kind of...
What would you like to talk about this weekend?
As this weekend begins, let’s open it up for whatever you’d like to discuss! We’d be interested in knowing what you think about the AFC West. More and more observers think the Broncos, Chargers and Raiders might be able to give the Kansas City Chiefs a run for their money this season. Are they on to something? Or will Kansas City cruise to its tenth straight division crown?
The Kansas City defensive end already has a special connection to one of the rookie defensive linemen.
When the Kansas City Chiefs selected former Louisville edge rusher Ashton Gillotte with the 66th pick of April’s draft, there was already one player in the building who knew his game well. He and the Chiefs’ George Karlaftis have had college coaches in common — and in the offseason, the former Purdue defensive end still trains with them.
“It’s a crazy coincidence, you know,” Karlaftis told reporters on Thursday. “I’ve known Ashton for a few years now. He had the staff that I...
Identifying three secret superstars who can help Kansas City bounce back from its Super Bowl embarrassment.
The first time a defense bollixed up the Kansas City Chiefs in a championship game, it was in Super Bowl LV after the 2020 season, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers set head coach Andy Reid’s high-flying offense on its ear in a 31-9 cakewalk.
After that, Kansas City’s reaction was swift and severe. The team completely re-tooled its offensive line with five new starters, setting a course for the future with a younger, more dynamic defense.
As we know, it’s worked out pretty well....
Chiefs headlines for Friday, May 30
They didn’t ignore the front after getting torched in Super Bowl LIX, retaining Trey Smith, signing Jaylon Moore and drafting Josh Simmons early. The question is, are they actually any better in the trenches? The tackles, in particular, are projections.

Everything that went down during Kansas City’s third organized team activity session of 2025.
On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs conducted their third organized team activity (OTA) session of the 2025 season at their practice facility on the grounds of the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City.
This was the first OTA practice open to the media. There will be seven more: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, followed by four more in the following week. Arrowhead Pride editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney was there. He posted some observations on social media — starting with an overcast (but comfortable) day.

The Kansas City quarterback says Rice has “no limitations.”
During Thursday’s media viewing of Day 3 of voluntary organized team activities (OTAs), Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was one of six absentees — but that was not due to injury, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
Reid applauded overall attendance of the first three days of workouts, noting that some players were out sick for the media look — Rice among them.
“He’s actually one of the guys under the weather,” said Reid. “So we’ve kept him at home here. But in Phase 2, he was great....
