The Cincinnati Bengals are looking to get back to .500 this weekend, as they take on the New York Jets at Paycor Stadium. While we’re not sure if it will be Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor under center for New York, we know that the Bengals need to do a better job at their pass rush disrupting quarterbacks.
A big help in that regard would be if they could get star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson back in the lineup. Hendrickson left the Week 6 loss to the Green Bay Packers with an injury. He did not return to the game or play in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night. The team listed him as out with a hip injury.
When speaking to the media Monday, head coach Zac Taylor gave an update on Hendrickson, leaving the door open for him to return to action on Sunday.
“We’ll see. It’s still early in the week so we’ll get to Wednesday and see where we’re at,” Taylor said during his Monday press conference. “He’s been good. He’ll be day-to-day until we get to Wednesday.”
Hendrickson will likely see if he is able to practice this week and if he does take the practice field, it will likely be in a limited capacity as he tests out how his hip feels.
As the week progresses, Hendrickson will be a name to keep an eye on when the team releases their official injury reports after practices.
Hendrickson would be a welcomed boost to the defensive line, but the Bengals really need other players to generate more pressure, whether Hendrickson is on the field or not.
In the meantime, don’t expect the Bengals to even entertain trading Hendrickson, even if his name continues to emerge in the rumor mill ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline.
