Say what you want about the New York Jets for the last few years, but one thing that hasn’t been up for debate has been the high quality of their cornerback core. While other teams wished that they had one lockdown corner, the New York Jets were regularly trotting out three over the past few years in Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, and Michael Carter II.

Things sure feel different this year though. What was once a wide receiver’s nightmare matchup against the top-tier trio has become far less daunting if you ask many Jets fans, and apparently if you ask ProFootballFocus too.

Through the first month of the 2025 season, the returned duo of Jets cornerbacks have played well below their career norms. What was once elite is currently looking mediocre, which is less than ideal given the contracts that both are trying to live up to. Moving forward, if the Jets are to improve then this is probably an area where they’ll have to see some upticks.
