WOLFE: Dolphins’ RT Austin Jackson To Miss ‘Weeks’; Season Opener vs. Colts in Jeopardy

The Miami Dolphins could be without their starting right tackle for the season opener vs. the Indianapolis Colts, NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe is reporting.

If you ever wondered if the Miami Dolphins are really cursed, look no further than the last two decades couple of weeks and the injuries that have transpired.

Last week, it was the secondary who sustained one injury after another. Now, a critical injury to the offensive line could hinder things for Mike McDaniel’s offense early on in the 2025 season.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the Dolphins expect Austin Jackson to miss multiple ‘weeks’ with an injury to his lower extremity. The hope is that he will be ready to go for Week 1’s matchup vs. the Colts, but if you’re a fan of the team, you know how this story ends.

This isn’t the first time Miami has been without its starting right tackle.

Last year, Jackson was placed on injured reserve after the Dolphins’ 23-15 Week 10 win over the Los Angeles Rams. He would get surgery on his knee and miss the remainder of the season after starting eight games for the team.

In 2022, Jackson missed 15 games with multiple injuries but bounced back in 2023. He signed a three-year extension with the Dolphins in December of 2023 worth $36 million, with $13M of his deal guaranteed.

In his absence, the team will look to field the best replacement out of a stable of veteran tackles, including 2025 FA signing Larry Borom, Kion Smith, and Ryan Hayes this preseason. However, if the team does have to go into Week 1 without Jackson, the team will likely let the best man play, as McDaniel has preached “the best five players” would play since the beginning of his tenure. Who that may be is anyone’s guess. But I think I’d prefer to see what Kion Smith can do over the veteran Borom or Hayes.

Either way, it feels like the season is slowly starting to come undone, just as fast as it’s approaching. And yet, I still can’t help but be over-the-moon excited for football to be back. And although I probably shouldn’t — I have a little bit of hope for what the season might bring,
