Mile High Report
WHAT A GAME!
The Denver Broncos defeated the Buffalo Bills in an instant classic. The game had multiple turnovers, was back and forth, had multiple big plays, had the refs come into play late, and in the end, the Broncos came away with the win on a game-winning field goal.
My adrenaline is high, my heart is still racing, but I am going to do my best to give you the winners and losers from that game.
The Broncos had some unlikely heroes along with some of the usual suspects, coming up big for them. They also had some loser-worthy play at times from some players, but hell, the Broncos are heading to the AFC Championship game. I am keeping this mostly positive.
I said earlier today that this could be a narrative-flipping game for Bo Nix, and that is exactly what happened. Nix went toe-to-toe with Josh Allen tonight and made fewer mistakes, and led his team to victory in overtime when Allen could not.
Bo Nix went 26 for 46 for 279 yards, 3 touchdowns, and had an additional 29 yards rushing. Early in the game, Lil’Jordan Humphrey dropped an easy walk-in touchdown that was an absolute dime by Nix, and there were multiple drops throughout the game. He also lost both Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant to injuries early on.
On top of all that. He did all this with little to no help from his run game.
Bo Nix put this offense on his back and led them to 33 points, a big 4th quarter touchdown drive, and the eventual game-winning drive.
A career-changing game for Bo Nix, who has established himself in the NFL as a legitimate starter, a top starter, and is now one game away from the Super Bowl.
Listen. The Broncos’ defense was not great today. They had no answer for running back James Cook, who topped 100 yards rushing. Josh Allen had multiple chunk plays through the air and on the ground, and they struggled to stop the Bills on third down.
They did not play well and nearly lost the game for the Broncos. With that said, despite these struggles, they forced a whopping 5 turnovers. They forced three fumbles, 2 on Josh Allen and 1 on James Cook, and had 2 big interceptions of Allen, including one in overtime that led to the game-winning field goal.
So, while you come out of this game not feeling great about the defensive effort, they still managed to force 5 turnovers. That’s very 2015-like and something they will need to continue to do if they want to advance to the Super Bowl.
They need to play better, but they stepped up when needed and made enough plays to help the Broncos get the victory. It was FAR from perfect, but these were impactful game-changing turnovers.
The Broncos were down both Pat Bryant and Troy...
