Finally, the Chicago Bears get to celebrate victory Monday after beating the Dallas Cowboys 31-14 in America’s Game of the Week. The Bears played inspired, clean football on all three phases, and it paid off. Caleb Williams threw for four touchdowns, the defense forced four turnovers, and the team overall played great situational football.
Head Coach Ben Johnson had a nice performance calling and designing plays yesterday, and he brought home his first win as the Bears head coach. Johnson emphasized playing “great situational football” this week in practice, he said in the post-game presser.
“I’m talking about third down, red zone, and two-minute, and I thought they really answered that bell. We were statistically better than [the Cowboys] in all three of those areas, and that was a good formula for us to come out on top,” Johnson claimed.
The whole team put on a good performance this week. Let’s get into the Windy City Honors awards for week 3.
This one goes to “FROme” Odunze who was rocking an old school look featuring a Bottega t-shirt, leather boots, and of course, an afro.
While Rome’s outfit was stylish, the more notable part about his pre-game fit was the comparison fans made between him and the legendary Wide Receiver Randy Moss. Odunze currently leads the league in receiving touchdowns with a total of four touchdowns over three games. This is just the beginning for the Williams-Odunze connection as their chemistry continues to grow with each game they play.
The Flea Flicker is not only the best offensive play from this week, but it is also probably the most exciting play the Bears offense has had in a very long time. This 65-yard touchdown pass (62.1 air yards) was both rookie wide-receiver Luther Burden III’s first career touchdown and Williams’ longest completion of his career. If you haven’t seen the play already, you will want to watch this:
Tremaine Edmunds had himself a day yesterday, recording two interceptions deep in Bears territory and 15 tackles. Edmunds’ first interception is the one that wins the “Best Interception of the Week” award. He dove to catch a pass that had deflected off Cowboys’ wide receiver George Pickens and cleanly picked it off.
“He was all over the field,” Johnson said. “He really came through for us in a big way.”
Edmunds had a great game, which resulted in Johnson giving him one of the game balls this week.
Overall, the Bears deserved the win this week as they played hard, they focused on the details, and they finished it out. Let’s hope they can stack the wins as the season continues.
