Windy City Gridiron
The Cardiac Bears do it again! Like many other games this season, the Chicago Bears 22-16 comeback win over the Green Bay Packers took years off all our lives, but wow. What a game! It will easily go down as one of the best regular season games in general and one of the best Bears-Packers games of all time. It will be one of those “I remember exactly where I was at” type of wins.
The Bears improve to 11-4 on the season atop the NFC North. What an incredible season thus far. Here are week 16’s Windy City Honors awards:
Clutchest Player in Bears History
Is quarterback Caleb “Iceman” Williams the most clutch quarterback Chicago has ever had? He just might be as he currently leads the league in 4th quarter comebacks this season and the most game-winning drives this season at six.
He has the most fourth-quarter comebacks by any Bears quarterback and is also tied with HOF Peyton Manning for the most 4th quarter comebacks in a season by a player under the age of 25 in NFL history.
Here are Williams’ stats when trailing this season:
Williams thrives under pressure, and he once again delivered this week. The Bears were down by 10 with 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. He tied the game up with an unreal touchdown pass to the undrafted rookie Jahdae Walker, forcing the game into overtime. Just a great throw from the young QB with a defender in his face.
In overtime, the Bears only needed a field goal after the Packers’ turnover on downs. Williams had other plans. He put the game in his own hands and decided to end it with a touchdown pass that traveled 56.9 yards in the air to DJ Moore, sealing the game.
Williams always delivers in crucial moments. He doesn’t crumble under the pressure; instead, he embraces it. Just clutch.
Most Underrated Phase
Bears’ fans have been showing out for the past two weeks as the team has been back at home. The players and the coaches have noted the palpable energy that fans, the 4th phase, have brought.
Last week, head coach Ben Johnson mentioned the role fans have during the game. “There’s no question they [fans] can impact the game. They did last week…I know our guys fed off of it. Multiple guys made comments after the game.”
The Bears’ recognized fans who showed up to Soldier Field by handing out 4th Phase towels to wave as the crowd cheered on their team during one of the most important games of the year. It paid off as Soldier Field was electric, providing a true homefield advantage.
The city of Chicago is full of excitement. The loyal fanbase deserves this after the tumultuous seasons they’ve experienced since 2018.
