Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s whether the Steelers will be able to attract quality free agents.
The fanbase has never been more down about Mike Tomlin’s team than entering the 2025 season, but potential free agents aren’t likely to look at things that way. Pittsburgh is a legendary NFL franchise, with a Hall of Fame-bound head coach, who is very popular, and they just made the playoffs despite having a 36-year-old Russell Wilson at quarterback.
Fundamentally, the team isn’t in any worse shape entering the season than it has been in any of the last five years, and while the fan frustration about that is understandable, that’s not the lens potential free agents will be viewing the team through.
Alan breaks it down.
