There were questions about whether or not Will Levis would be the starter for the Titans this season, but the team confirmed that will not be the case after he announced his decision to undergo shoulder surgery that will keep him sidelined for the entire year. It was a somewhat unexpected development, but it seems like he’s making the right call based on the photo he shared of the ailment in question.

There’s only so much you can do to avoid succumbing to injuries when you make a living as a professional athlete, and that’s especially true for the NFL quarterbacks who are subjected to a ton of wear and tear over the course of their careers.

Will Levis has only been in the league for a couple of years, but the QB has already had to endure plenty of abuse since taking the reins in Tennessee in 2023 thanks in no small part to the porous offensive line that deserves a huge chunk of the blame for the 41 times he was sacked last season.

That number undoubtedly would have been even higher if Levis hadn’t been limited to 12 games due to a lingering shoulder issue that initially reared its head when he injured the AC joint in his throwing arm during a game against the Dolphins at the end of September.

The QB ultimately missed four contests during a disappointing campaign where he posted a 2-10 record as a starter. While he had some time to let the shoulder heal in the offseason, it once again became an issue as he was gearing up for training camp, and it’s pretty easy to see why he opted for surgery after he provided fans with a glimpse of what he’s dealing with.

Will Levis is probably making the right call by having shoulder surgery based on how the joint currently looks

The Titans earned the top overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after finishing with a 3-14 record last season, and Levis found himself facing some competition after the franchise used it to scoop up Cam Ward out of Miami.

It seemed like we were going to be treated to the QB competition, but barring an unanticipated development, Ward will be under center when Tennessee kicks off the season against the Broncos on the road on September 7th.

Levis, on the other hand, will be watching from the sidelines while recovering from the surgery he was scheduled to undergo on Tuesday, and on Monday night, he provided the world with a glimpse at what the doctors will be addressing when he shared a fairly alarming picture of the ailment on Instagram.

Why does Will Levis’ shoulder look so weird?

I am firmly not a medical professional, but it sure looks like Levis is grappling with bursitis that has caused his AC joint to swell up to that worrying degree; if that looks or sounds familiar, Jayden Daniels also turned plenty of heads last year [due to...
