The Atlanta Falcons are currently taking part in mandatory minicamp as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. One storyline hanging over the Falcons this offseason has been the legal situation of pass rusher James Pearce Jr., who was arrested in Florida on a slew of charges in February but has since agreed to a pretrial diversion program that would see the charges dismissed.

Recently, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on the latest regarding Pearce Jr.’s participation in minicamp.

“Atlanta Falcons defensive end James Pearce Jr. returned to the team’s Flowery Branch training facility today for the first time since being charged with aggravated battery and fleeing law enforcement on Feb. 7.. Pearce is expected to take part in this week’s mandatory minicamp, but he is not anticipated to address the media,” reported Schefter on X, formerly Twitter.

Pearce Jr. had an excellent rookie season for Atlanta after they traded back up into the first round to select him out of the University of Tennessee, joining fellow rookie Jalon Walker out of Georgia. Pearce led the Falcons is sacks this past season and was a major part of the team having a competent pass rush for the first time seemingly in forever.

The legal situation, which stemmed from allegations of abuse of WNBA star Rickea Jackson, threatened to put an end to that elite play just as it was beginning, and clearly, there are still lots of things to sort out on that front, including a potential suspension from the NFL.

The Falcons’ season is slated to begin in early September.
