Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard gives his honest take on Aaron Rodgers officially joining the team.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers likely ended any chance of rookie Will Howard playing meaningful snaps this season. Howard doesn’t care, though.
“I was fired up,” Howard said. “Believe me. That’s a guy I grew up watching, idolizing, and it’s cool to be in the same room with him. Just hearing, first day, his thoughts and the way that he looks at things. He’s a legend in this game. I’m gonna try and learn as much as I can from him and be the best support guy that I can be for him. I think it’s amazing. The opportunity for me to learn and to work with a guy like that is second to none.”
The Steelers’ plan was always to let Howard sit and learn during his rookie year. But until Rodgers was officially in Pittsburgh, the rookie had as good of a shot as anyone with just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson also under contract.
Howard will now get that opportunity, though. And having the chance to learn from a four-time NFL MVP like Rodgers will only set him up for success at the next level, and he knows that.
“I’ve been watching him pretty much, damn near, my whole life. There’s a lot of things I’ve picked up from him. The things he can do with the football in his hands are kind of special,” Howard said. “You got to make the best of your situation. I think him being here, for me, is like a dream come true, learning from a guy like that.”
Howard was selected by the Steelers in the sixth-round (No. 185 overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft after he led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a College Football National Championship in 2024.
During that span, Howard threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and rushed for 226 yards and seven more scores.
