It was a heartbreaking conclusion to another slim loss for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are officially out of the 2025 NFL Playoffs after losing to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The loss ended their streak of seven consecutive AFC Championship appearances. It also marked their first missed postseason since 2014. It was a disappointing end to a season plagued by inconsistency. Their final game added insult to injury when Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL.
Tavia Hunt expressed disappointment over how the season ended. “Today didn’t end the way we hoped,” the wife of Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt wrote. “After a season full of effort and heart. Missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade stings—and it’s okay to feel that disappointment.”
Hunt also expressed gratitude for this year’s squad.
“Football teaches us a lot about perseverance, humility, and resilience. Not every game ends in a win, and following Jesus never comes with a promise of ease or comfort. But it does come with the promise that God is at work—faithfully and purposefully—even in seasons that hurt. Our trust isn’t in outcomes, but in a God who remains steady when everything else feels uncertain,” she continued. “Life is bigger than football, even when football means so much. Our ultimate hope isn’t found in a playoff berth or a trophy—it’s anchored in eternity. Grateful for this team, this community, and the journey—through every high and every hard.”
It’s been a tough year for the Kansas City Chiefs’ owners. It began over the summer when a family member perished in the Texas floods. Nine-year-old Janie Hunt was one of the Camp Mystic youngsters who died.
“We are devastated,” the family told PEOPLE.
Where do the Chiefs go from here?
The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of questions to answer when it comes to the roster. These Chiefs remain a living, breathing dynasty, but it might be over.
The harsh reality of the regular season is setting in. They will not be competing for a championship. Not to mention, Mahomes’ injury will put him on the shelf for the entirety of the 2026 offseason. That brings doubts about his availability at the start of next year’s schedule. It will add another challenging factor to an already difficult equation for the offseason.
The Chiefs currently have Gardner Minshew on a one-year deal. His play in the final few games could determine if they bring him back. As of right now, they desperately need him.
Everything that was once good will eventually go bad. The Kansas City Chiefs are finding that out the hard way.
