Dan Wiederer joins the Bears Banter Podcast!

The latest Bears Banter Podcast has dropped!

The Chicago Bears season is (finally) in the rearview mirror, and the Bears head to the offseason looking for a new head coach, but plenty happened before the search even began!

Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune joined the podcast and discussed everything that went down this past week, from the win against the Packers, the decision to retain Ryan Poles, the year-end press conferences at Halas Hall, and, of course, the Bears’ coaching search.

Dan was excellent on all fronts, but the point he made about Halas Hall and how they continue to hire and make decisions with no cohesion is worth noting.

“First and foremost, do you have a drink or a gummy to help me forget how decisions are made at Halas Hall?” Wiederer joked. “What you just described [I suggested the Bears could draft a QB in 2024, hire a coach in 2025, and bring in a new GM in 2026] mirrors the whole process of drafting a quarterback in 2021, hiring a new coach, and general manager in 2022, then hiring the team president in 2023. Backwards. Everything at Halas Hall happens backwards, and you’re in danger of having it happen again if you decide at the end of the 2025 season, ‘Oh yeah, you know what? You guys were right, Ryan Poles wasn’t up to the task of building this roster the right way and to have the breakthrough that was promised.’ So they’re in a danger zone here. They’re at the edge of the cliff with the fingernails dug in trying to hang on and make a hire that’s going to rescue everybody.”
