New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel announced on Friday that running back Rhamondre Stevenson will miss Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons due to a toe injury.
With Stevenson out, it’s now time for rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson to step up.
Henderson’s season has been quite a rollercoaster ride. However, he truly shone last week, rushing 10 times for 75 yards against the Cleveland Browns. His performance earned him praise from offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
“I don’t think it’s a secret that he’s fast and he does some really good things with the ball,” McDaniels said on Thursday. “I thought he made some really good runs. He fought through some contact. Excited to see him build on that and continue to grow.”
Henderson has a chance to make an impact this week, as the Falcons are allowing an average of 126.4 rushing yards per game. Conversely, Atlanta’s pass defense is strong, giving up only 149.1 passing yards per game, the best in the NFL.
Drake Maye is off to a strong start but may face challenges against Atlanta’s secondary. If the Patriots’ passing game falters, relying on Henderson could help secure their sixth straight win.
Henderson will need to bring his A-game this week, as he could be the key offensive player for New England.
