Why the Cowboys’ matchup with Commanders is more important than you think
Inside The Star Inside The Star

Well, here we are again, only three days until game day and honestly, if you did not know by now, the Dallas Cowboys are going to have to win every single game with their offense.

The Dallas defense is so bad, I will touch on that in a moment, but I am trying all I can to try and build myself up for this game on Sunday because, honestly, it means a lot more than you think.

After the Bears beat the Commanders on Monday night, the winner of this Cowboys/Washington matchup on Sunday is the sole leader of second place in the NFC East.

Defensive Records

As I said above, the Cowboys are going to have to win every single game with their offense, because this Dallas defense is on pace to set two NFL records this season.

Through the first six games of this season, the Cowboys have allowed 2,470 total yards against them. They are one of just three teams to eclipse 2,400.

They are ranked 32nd in the league, allowed 30 points for the fourth time in 2025, struggling particularly against the run and pass. In the Panthers game, they permitted 216 rushing yards.

Matt Eberflus, and the defense remains a work in progress, running man coverage on only 6.2% of plays, the lowest rate in the league.

The New Orleans Saints gave up a NFL record 7,042 yards in 2012. The Cowboys are on pace to give up 7,402 yards, they are allowing over 400 a game.

Not only that, they are on pace to give up an NFL RECORD 116.9 passer rating. They have made every single QB look good.

The Commanders did indeed lose to the Bears on Monday, but do we really think they will lose to the Cowboys? The question we should be asking is can the Cowboys score 35 or 40 and have the ball last?

That is what I think decides the game. I hope Dallas throws it 45 times. CeeDee Lamb is on track to be back and George Pickens and Dak Prescott have a fantastic connection right now.

The offense is on fire and that is who has to win this game. I don’t think even at home they can, but if they can find a way, this win would be them in sole possession of second place in the NFC East....
