Why Steelers Could Be Perfect Spot for Brendan Sorsby: ‘Work on the Person’
Steelers Now Steelers Now

The Brendan Sorsby fever is reaching its peak after the former Texas Tech quarterback officially declared for the supplemental draft. As teams continue evaluating one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects available, speculation has intensified about which franchise could ultimately be willing to take the gamble.

One analyst once again connected Sorsby to Pittsburgh.

Speaking on Heed the Call, NFL analyst Marc Sessler suggested the Steelers could be an ideal landing spot for the quarterback.

“The right spot is somewhere he goes and he’s not pressured into a high-pressure situation. You work on the person, he gets to know the NFL, and then when Aaron Rodgers leaves, he becomes the Steelers quarterback.”

It’s an intriguing argument.

If Sorsby were to land with a team like Cleveland or New York, there’s a realistic chance he could be thrust into action almost immediately. While that offers valuable experience, it also comes with significant risk for a quarterback still developing both on and off the field.

Pittsburgh would offer a much different path. Behind Aaron Rodgers, Sorsby would have the opportunity to learn the NFL game, develop at his own pace, and avoid being thrown into the fire before he’s ready.

Of course, the situation is far from simple.

The Steelers already have four quarterbacks on the roster and recently used a Day 2 pick on Drew Allar, creating a fascinating dynamic if Sorsby were to enter the room. On the surface, it might seem unnecessary. But when you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, the conversation becomes much more interesting.

The Steelers have now spent nearly half a decade trying to find somebody to fill the long-term shoes of Ben Roethlisberger, and they’ve tried just about every avenue possible. They spent a first-round pick on Kenny Pickett hoping they could develop him into the guy. They turned to veteran stopgaps like Russell Wilson and now Aaron Rodgers in hopes of stabilizing the position while remaining competitive.

Yet here we are in 2026, and neither the organization nor the fanbase can honestly say they know who the Steelers’ quarterback of the future is.

That’s why the fundamental question isn’t whether the quarterback room is crowded. It isn’t whether Pittsburgh already drafted Drew Allar. The question is simple: do the Steelers believe Brendan Sorsby can be a franchise quarterback?

Because if the answer is yes, then you do your due diligence.

The reality is that franchise quarterbacks are incredibly difficult to find. Teams spend years searching for them and often fail. If Pittsburgh’s evaluation concludes that Sorsby gives them a better chance of finding a long-term answer than the quarterbacks already in the building, then it would be irresponsible not to seriously consider him.

The Steelers are reportedly doing their homework on Sorsby already. Whether that ultimately leads to them making a move remains to be seen.

But after years of searching for an answer at the most important position in sports, the idea of adding another name to the...
