New England Patriots fans may feel nervous about rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson’s sluggish start to the season. However, NBC Sports Boston’s Patriots Insider, Tom E. Curran, isn’t overly concerned about Henderson just yet.
“I think Henderson just needs reps to get his mojo correct,” Curran said on Tuesday during WEEI’s “Jones & Keefe”. “You ride a player to get him into the flow of things and let him figure out what his NFL regular season pace should be, and they just haven’t had the opportunity.”
Henderson rushed only twice for five yards in the team’s 31-13 win over the Titans on Sunday. Henderson’s limited production against Tennessee wasn’t an outlier but rather part of a trend this season.
The 22-year-old running back has rushed 43 times for a total of 153 yards over seven games. So far, Henderson has only played one game this season with double-digit carries, which happened in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Curran isn’t ready to panic about Henderson, but Greg A. Bedard from the Boston Sports Journal explains why he believes the young running back is getting limited opportunities.
“The coaches do not have confidence in TreVeyon Henderson,” Bedard said on Sunday. “And that’s not gonna change till they see it on the practice field.”
Henderson still has a long way to go, but hopefully, he’ll show the coaches that he can be a key part of the offense in the second half of the season.
