Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty spent precious memories on the football field together at Rutgers and they eventually won a Super Bowl together with the New England Patriots.
Both players have stayed busy around the game since their respective retirements and settled into prime positions in football media. Devin serves as a studio analyst for NBC’s Football Night in America” show that preludes “Sunday Night Football” broadcasts. Jason previously spent time as a host for NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” and now appears on ESPN while working games in the booth for CBS and Westwood One.
Several former Patriots stars such as Tom Brady, Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski make their money on TV now. That’s what made the broadcast success so impressive to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand. The defensive backs were productive NFL players, but carving out media careers without the stardom of players like Brady makes for a notable rise.
“I think the McCourtys have really done a tremendous job just because their position and fame wasn’t as great as some of the other players,” Marchand told NESN.com. “I think that’s an uphill battle a little bit. They’ve done a really good job.”
They also joined Scott Zolak in the booth to broadcast a pair of home preseason games on TV for the Patriots last August.
The McCourty brothers should have roles in future Super Bowl coverage when CBS and NBC take respective turns in the rotation. In the meantime, the previously mentioned trio of former Patriots on offense will hold down Super Bowl coverage, including Brady calling the game, for FOX on Sunday evening in New Orleans between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
