Windy City Gridiron
In this miniseries, we’ll look at several Chicago Bears who are making a solid case for the Pro Bowl.
The Player: Nahshon Wright was a third-round pick in 2021 out of Oregon State by the Dallas Cowboys. He’s 6’4” and is on his third team in five years. He was signed by the Chicago Bears in April, originally believed to be a depth player instead of a starter. He was coached by John Beam, who tragically lost his life in November.
The Case For Him: Wright currently leads the league in takeaways, with five interceptions and three fumbles recovered (one of which he forced himself when he defeated the famous/infamous tush push against Philadelphia). He has returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown and has the most return yards off interceptions of any corner (118). He also has ten defensed passes and three tackles for a loss.
The Case Against Him: He is a very boom-or-bust defender, and his rawness shows. He has been burned on a few plays, and he’s drawn five accepted penalties.
Rebuttal: His strip-recovery of the football in the Bears-Eagles game was an absolute inflection point in the game.
