The New England Patriots enter Week 7 atop the AFC East via a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Buffalo Bills. Julian Edelman believes his former team will maintain the division’s top spot.
On “Fox NFL Sunday,” Edelman raised concerns over the Bills while touting the Patriots as a squad that’s only getting stronger.
“There’s a team that’s trending up, and there’s a team that’s trending down,” Edelman said. “The team that’s trending down is the Buffalo Bills. I’m hitting that panic button right now.”
Edelman is particularly apprehensive about Buffalo’s No. 30 rushing defense, which ceded 210 yards on the ground in a Week 6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
“They look light in the box … They’re giving up 5.8 yards a carry right now, and that’s not sustainable if you want to play late into the season when the weather starts to turn, the tackling gets worse,” Edelman said. “I’m worried about them.”
The three-time Super Bowl champion then commended Mike Vrabel and the Patriots, who won three straight before Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
“The Patriots, on the other hand, they just continue to get better and better,” Edelman declared. “Drake Maye’s playing really good, sound football. He’s not turning the ball over. They got a running game going, and Vrabel’s got that defense firing on all cylinders.”
Edelman didn’t back down when Charles Woodson asked if he was picking the Patriots to win their first AFC East title in 2019.
“They’re gonna win the division,” Edelman responded.
New England can justify the iconic wide receiver’s confidence with a Week 7 win over the Titans.
