The Boston Celtics returned to the practice floor Saturday, having just taken care of business against the Philadelphia 76ers in their first game since the All-Star break.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla invited a special guest to watch the practice of the same occupation in another sport: New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Mazzulla previously discussed his relationship with Vrabel’s predecessor Jerod Mayo along with Red Sox manager Alex Cora and former Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery. That bond is a beneficial yet informal tradition that’s run around the region in recent years with the Celtics coach involved.

“It was great,” Mazzulla told reporters, per WEEI’s Justin Turpin. “He obviously brings a championship perspective. Any time you get together with guys in the same arena as we are and support each other, I think that’s important.”

Mazzulla enjoyed the chance to pick Vrabel’s brain in his Celtics visit and be able to lean on one another in the pursuit of Boston success.

“Any time the four people that have these four jobs have it, there’s got to be a brotherhood,” Mazzulla added. “There’s got to be a communication and an understanding that we’re all carrying a responsibility to compete at a high level and bring championships to the city. You’ve got to learn from each other and have this perspective.”
