Drake Maye is firmly in the running for the NFL’s MVP, but former Patriots cornerback Ty Law is uncertain if Maye can actually secure it.
“I think he’s going to be in the conversation,” Law said on Maye’s MVP chances during Tuesday’s “The Greg Hill Show”. “However, I think you know that as long as Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, along with some of the larger names, continue to play well, it will be hard for some people to look past those names if they have similar statistics.”
Maye surpassed Mahomes in MVP odds after Sunday’s game. Mahomes, initially the frontrunner at +140, fell to +430 following a poor performance in the 28-21 loss to the Bills.
Maye currently holds odds of +400, while oddsmakers favor Allen at +150.
Law makes some valid points, suggesting that voters will likely award the honor to either Allen or Mahomes, since both performed at a high level for several years. It’s worth noting that Maye is leading a team that won only four games last year to a remarkable season.
If Maye continues to play at the level he showed during the first half of the season and the Patriots claim one of the top two seeds in the AFC, voters will find it tough to overlook him for MVP.
