Why Do The Kansas City Chiefs Get Their Own End Zone In Brazil? NFL Destroys Home-Field Advantage

The Kansas City Chiefs will get their own end zone for the first international game of the 2025 NFL season even though the Los Angeles Chargers are the home team. That will continue to be the case moving forward.

Both teams are going to be featured on the field at every game played outside of the United States.

This new aesthetic change by the NFL hopes to enhance the game day environment. I think it’s bogus.

The NFL took away home-field advantage.

International games are not new to the National Football League. The first-ever game played outside of the U.S. took place in 2005.

There have been 50 games played in five different countries over the last 20 years: the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Canada and Brazil. There will be seven international games played in 2025.

  • Week 1: Chiefs vs. Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil
  • Week 4: Steelers vs. Vikings in Dublin, Ireland
  • Week 5: Vikings vs. Browns in London, U.K.
  • Week 6: Broncos vs. Jets in London, U.K.
  • Week 7: Rams vs. Jaguars in London, U.K.
  • Week 10: Falcons vs. Colts in Berlin, Germany
  • Week 11: Commanders vs. Dolphins in Madrid, Spain

The Chargers, Steelers, Vikings, Jets, Jaguars, Colts and Dolphins will be the designated home teams for each of those very away games. They lose a true home game from their schedule.

The end zones look different.

Up until 2019, the NFL gave each team its own end zone during international games. The home team got one end zone. The away team got the other end zone.

That has not been the case over the last six years. The home team had its logo in both end zones in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, which is how it should be. It is a “home” game.

This is how the field looked when the Eagles played against the Packers in Brazil as the designated home team last season:

Now, one year later, we are back to the pre-2019 paint job. Both teams get their own end zone.

The Kansas City Chiefs, the away team, will have their logo and colors in one end zone. The Los Angeles Chargers, the home team, will have their logo and colors in the other end zone.

This decision was made during the offseason. It was reviewed with all clubs at the spring league meeting in May.

“New for this year, the logos or marks of both teams will appear in their respective end zones of all NFL international games,” said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy. “It’s a fun element to further enhance the atmosphere as a big event and create a special look and feel for international games.”

I disagree. It is not a fun element!

The only time that both teams should have their logos displayed in the end zone is the Super Bowl. This is a designated home game for the Los Angeles Chargers so the field should look like a...
