The New England Patriots have plenty of options to pursue to finally bring in the game-breaking receiver,
The San Francisco 49ers appear to be on their way to potentially dealing wideout Deebo Samuel as NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday. His body of work speaks for itself in his six seasons in the NFL as he helped San Francisco win a pair of NFC championships.
The Patriots should absolutely explore what type of trade package could get that deal done as Samuel can rapidly elevate quarterback Drake Maye’s potential. San Francisco took him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
That’s one the Patriots would love to have back.
New England needed to find a new weapon after a win in Super Bowl LIII entering what turned out to be Tom Brady’s final season with the Patriots. Luckily, that receiver class became among the best in recent memory with stars such as Samuel, DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin and A.J. Brown. Unfortunately for New England, the franchise made a different decision.
The Patriots instead took N’Keal Harry out of Arizona State with the No. 32 overall pick. Harry had a few flash plays as a rookie, though he never rose to any sort of real production in the NFL and the Patriots just haven’t been good enough on offense for years as a partial result of the pick.
Fast forward six years and the Patriots can fix the mistakes of the 2019 draft. Samuel, while his production dropped this season, would instantly be New England’s best skill player to jumpstart and offense in need. He just turned 29 in January and still should have production ahead.
The Patriots could erase some past guilt and empower the offense for the future if they can strike a deal with the 49ers.
