The Philadelphia Eagles are taking part in mandatory minicamp this week as their offseason preparations for the upcoming year continue. The Eagles have made several interesting moves this offseason, including trading for veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, giving up a late-round draft pick to the Carolina Panthers in return.

At this point, there is no clear number two between Dalton and Tanner McKee, and that continued to be the case after head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about the quarterback situation during his latest media availability at practice.

“Nick Sirianni said that the #Eagles are rotating at the backup QB spot between Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton. He’s not ready to declare a backup. McKee was the unquestioned No. 2 last season,” reported Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer on X, formerly Twitter.

Dalton started at times during his Panthers tenure due to the struggles of Bryce Young, but didn’t exactly perform well the last time fans saw him on the field, resulting in Young winning the starting job back and making the Panthers feel more comfortable trading for the aging veteran.

Meanwhile, McKee didn’t get a chance to show much during his time in Philadelphia last year, but clearly, he still has a chance to earn the backup role for this upcoming season.

Starting for the Eagles, of course, will be Jalen Hurts, the former Super Bowl MVP who had a bit of a down year in 2025, struggling with interceptions and other costly mistakes and not finding ways to get AJ Brown the ball as much as fans were hoping, resulting in the wide receiver’s trade to the New England Patriots earlier this offseason.

Still, Eagles fans are hoping that the only time they see one of the backups on the field this year is if the team is blowing out the opposition.
