Pats Pulpit
When the New England Patriots selected TreVeyon Henderson in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft, they were hoping to get a home run hitter at the running back position. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, the rookie was just that: Henderson scored touchdowns of 55 and 69 yards and played a pivotal role in his team’s 28-23 victory.
Finishing with those two scores and a total of 147 rushing yards on the day, that game was the best of Henderson’s young career. The fact that he got a chance to operate as New England’s lead back, however, was in large part due to circumstance: he had started the season as the second option at the position behind veteran Rhamondre Stevenson. However, a toe injury has sidelined Stevenson for the last two games.
Whether or not the designated starter will return this week versus the New York Jets remains to be seen, but the long-term outlook at the position is most definitely intriguing. Will Stevenson resume RB1 duties once he is back to full strength? Or will Henderson’s momentum keep him in the top spot in the rotation?
That is precisely the question we are also asking in this week’s SB Nation Reacts survey. Make sure to participate in our poll, and to head down to the comment section to share and discuss your answers. As always, the results will be posted later this week.
