The signing period starts soon
In three weeks, NFL teams will be able to start legally tampering with potential free agents ahead of the start of the 2025 league year. The Minnesota Vikings will be flush with cash after clearing out a lot of their bad contracts over the past couple of seasons, and there are some players who fit in quite nicely with what the team needs to do in order to continue contending in the NFC.
We know that the Vikings will be signing more than one player in free agency, but who is the player that you most want the Vikings to ink during the offseason signing period?
While I understand that the Vikings have a need on the offensive line, if I could wave the proverbial magic wand and bring one member of this year’s free agent class to Minnesota, it would be defensive lineman Milton Williams, who has spent his career to this point with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Williams has had a solid career in Philadelphia to this point, but seems to be stuck at defensive tackle on their depth chart behind Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. After putting together a monster performance in the Super Bowl last Sunday with two sacks and a forced fumble, he appears poised to get himself a big contract in free agency.
While the Vikings have a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball, one thing that they are lacking is a defensive lineman who can really push the pocket from the interior. A player like Williams would be a pretty nice complement to Harrison Phillips, who has been outstanding during his time in Minnesota but hasn’t ever really been much of a pass rusher. Being able to get some interior pressure on quarterbacks would help the secondary as well, as the Vikings will be bringing in plenty of new faces there as well.
If I were Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, I would make Williams the Vikings’ top free agent target when things get started in three weeks. Do you think that’s a solid choice, or do you think there’s someone else the Vikings should have their sights set on first?
