Who should the Rams play to open the 2025 season?

The Los Angeles Rams are entering a highly anticipated 2025 season in which they are expected to be Super Bowl contenders. Following last season’s defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs, coming 14-yards shy of hosting the NFC Championship game, expectations haven’t been this high since 2021.

On Wednesday, the NFL will release the 2025 schedule. While we’ve known since the end of the season who the Rams will play, now is when we find out when those games will take place. As it stands, the Rams already know that they’ll be making a trip across the pond in Week 7 to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

When the schedule is released, fans immediately look at how many primetime games there are and when the bye week takes place. Today, we’ll be focusing on the season opener.

Since taking over as the head coach of the Rams, McVay has lost just two games in Week 1, losing to the Buffalo Bills in 2022 and Detroit Lions last season. While some fans enjoy a tough game to start the season to get an immediate measure on how good the team is, others tend to prefer an opponent that helps ease them into the year. With Super Bowl expectations, getting a fast start and easing into the season may be more beneficial.

The Rams haven’t opened the season at home since unveiling their Super Bowl banner against the Bills in 2022. Since then, the Rams have opened against the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions on the road. Some will be hoping for a home opener for the first time in three years in 2025.

Who should be the Rams Week 1 opponent?

There are several good options for the Rams to open the season, but that get limited if you rule out any away games. An opener against the Atlanta Falcons would be fun. It would also be cool to open the season against the Tennessee Titans and the number one pick Cam Ward. There was some speculation that the Rams should trade for Bryce Young last year and a matchup against Sean McVay and Ejiro Evero would be interesting.

At home, the Rams have some intriguing matchups against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans. It seems unlikely that the Rams would open again with the Detroit Lions. Division opponents are always fun to open with. If the Rams were to win, it would give them an early lead in the NFC West.

My answer here is going to be opening at home against the Seattle Seahawks. While it wasn’t surprising that the Rams moved on from wide receiver Cooper Kupp, it was one of the bigger moves of the offseason. Kupp then opted to sign with a division...
