President Donald Trump is not playing around regarding the Washington Commanders.

The Commanders have had a busy offseason, including trading for left tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Deebo Samuel to bolster one of the top offenses in the NFL from a year ago.

There’s also news off the field with the franchise announcing plans to build a new stadium in Washington, D.C. The franchise hopes to build on the site of RFK Memorial Stadium.

Unfortunately, Washington may also be facing a challenge from the highest-ranking elected official in the country.

President Donald Trump threatened to halt the Washington Commanders’ plans to build a new stadium if the team didn’t return to the Redskins moniker.

Trump put the pressure on the Commanders and the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday.

“My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way,” Trump wrote in a second Truth Social post.

“I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone.”

“Cleveland should do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The Owner of the Cleveland Baseball Team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three Elections in a row because of that ridiculous name change,” Trump added. “What he doesn’t understand is that if he changed the name back to the Cleveland Indians, he might actually win an Election. Indians are being treated very unfairly. MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)!”

Trump isn’t kidding around.

“The president was serious,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Monday when asked about Trump’s new warning to block a proposed stadium deal that would return the Commanders to Washington if the team doesn’t adopt its former name.

Wow: President Donald Trump is 100% serious about blocking a Washington Commanders stadium deal if they don't change their name back to the Redskins.

Washington retired the name Redskins in July 2020 amid nationwide protests. They initially changed their name to the Washington Football Team for two seasons and then rebranded as the Washington Commanders in 2022.

Washington Commanders Made Final Decision On Changing Their Name Back To Redskins

Trump vs. Washington wasn’t on anybody’s bingo card.

The President may want them to change their name to the redskins, but it does not appear they would do so.

The Commanders do not plan to change their name back to the Redskins.

Commanders owner Josh Harris told Bret Baier on “Special Report” in April that the Redskins name wouldn’t be coming back.

“The Commanders’ name actually has...
