Which positions should the Titans prioritize on the waiver wire?

The Tennessee Titans will submit their initial 53-man roster next Tuesday afternoon. As a result of owning the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Titans will have the top priority on the waiver wire. With roughly 1,200 players being cut around the league, expect Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker to take full advantage of that benefit.

The Titans are a rebuilding roster. A lack of back-end depth at various positions has been painfully evident throughout the preseason. With the expectation that the Titans will probably claim between three (low end) and seven (high end) players, we’ve identified which positions Borgonzi and Brinker will likely target.

EDGE

The EDGE position is the biggest deficiency on the Titans’ roster. Assuming they keep five, the final spot is being decided by Jaylen Harrell, Ali Gaye, and Desmond Evans. The Titans can do better than that, either via the waiver wire, or by signing a veteran rusher like Preston or Za’Darius Smith in free agency.

Cornerback

If L’Jarius Sneed makes the 53-man roster, that means sophomore Gabe Jeudy-Lally is likely the sixth (and final) cornerback. If that scenario becomes reality, the Titans may still claim a cornerback. If Sneed begins the campaign on the PUP, the Titans may even have room for two claims at cornerback. Depth is an issue, and the undrafted corners have looked terrible throughout the preseason.

Linebacker

Cody Barton, James Williams, and Cedric Gray are arguably the only linebackers worthy of making the 53-man roster. Anfernee Orji was lost to a season-ending injury, and the Titans have made a plethora of roster moves throughout training camp here, including cutting Otis Reese IV and David Gbenda. Linebacker is another position that could potentially see more than one waiver claim.

Defensive tackle

The Titans have stellar depth at defensive tackle, with Jeffery Simmons, Sebastian Joseph-Day, T’Vondre Sweat, and James Lynch being locks to make the roster. The fifth spot is currently being competed for by four players; veterans Carlos Watkins and Timmy Horne, and UDFAs Isaiah Raikes and Cam Horsley. A better option may become available.
