Welcome to our weekly debate about the Patriots.
The New England Patriots were quite active in the NFL Draft, adding a total of 11 new players to their roster. While it remains to be seen how many of them will actually make it out of training camp, and then earn regular roles on the team, there is a level of excitement surrounding a class that received widespread praise.
Excitement is also the subject of our latest weekend discussion:
First some picks from our staff, then it’s up to the comment section for your picks.
Bernd Buchmasser: The Patriots signed a pair of veterans in free agency and also roster some youngsters who could still develop into contributors, but you nonetheless have to be excited about what Kyle Williams could bring to Josh McDaniels’ offense. He already showed promise in the offseason and adds a speed element the group is otherwise missing. The third-rounder could become a go-to weapon for Drake Maye this summer.
Brian Hines: The Patriots offense desperately needs juice and that’s exactly what TreVeyon Henderson brings to the table. He’s a threat to take it to the house any time he touches the ball — on the ground or in the air — and he’ll also bury someone in pass pro. That skill should get him on the field immediately.
Taylor Kyles: TreVeyon Henderson gives you a bit of everything and has a clear path to playing time. His blocking deserves its own highlight reel, and Josh McDaniels will maximize Henderson’s versatility.
Pat Lane: The Patriots’ second- and third-round picks have a chance to make the offense explosive, but it’s the guy who will be blocking for them that I’m most excited to see this year. Will Campbell has a chance to change their offensive line for the better. The Patriots have had a terrible O-line for the last few seasons, but that could change with a dominant left tackle. If Campbell is that, he could have a transformative effect on the entire offense.
Now, it’s your turn: Which Patriots rookie are you most looking forward to heading into training camp? Please scroll down to the comment section below to share your answers, thoughts, and more.
