The Las Vegas Raiders will set their initial 53-man roster in 15 days and the way the roster will look is taking shape.
Yet, nearly three weeks into training camp, one position that looks somewhat thin is at defensive tackle.
Of course, the position experience a massive change when standout Christian Wilkins was released after a prolonged recovery from a foot injury. Yet, there has been some other issues at the position during training camp as well.
Starter Adam Butler has missed practice due to personal reasons. It’s unclear when he will return. Also, free-agent addition Leki Fotu has been in a walking boot and has not practiced recently there is no timeline on his return.
Sixth-round draft pick, J.J. Pegues started in the preseason opener at the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. Butler and Jonah Laulu are expected to be key pieces in the rotation. With Zach Carter, Pegues and fellow rookie, fourth-round pick Tonka Hemingway also expected to get a chance to be part of the rotation.
Also, the team acquired Thomas Booker last week from the Philadelphia Eagles for cornerback Jakorian Bennett. Booker was active in the Seattle game and also should get some playing time. Keondre Coburn, claimed off waivers from the Tennessee Titans last month, could also push for a roster spot.
Overall, there is a lot of experience in this group and the Raiders could be active on the waiver wire at the position in a couple of week. It’s certainly something to monitor.
