After a couple seasons of not having a reliable complement to their top receiver, the Pittsburgh Steelers have finally found one when they traded for former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. earlier in this offseason.
In a recent article ranking the best No. 2 wide receivers in the NFL, Pittman came in at No. 9.
Pittman is a veteran wide receiver, having spent the first six seasons of his career with the Indianapolis Colts who selected him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In the 2025 season, he had 80 receptions for 784 yards and seven receiving touchdowns.
It’s not just his on field production that led the Steelers to trade for him, his humility and reputation as a good teammate in the locker room was a significant factor too, especially after having such a talented, yet temperamental player in George Pickens in that role previously.
Aaron Rodgers seems to be thrilled with the addition too. Rodgers spoke about Pittman with reporters during OTAs back in May.
“I actually was down in Southern California with Will [Howard], so got to throw with [Michael] Pittman down there. And I’ve known him for a little bit. He’s a Southern California kid”, Rodgers said of Pittman. “So I’ve always respected his game, but he’s a smart player. He’s got good hands, good catch radius.”
Rodgers continues, “So obviously pairing him with DK [Metcalf], I thought was good for us.”
Pittman’s versatility also fits well into coach Mike McCarthy’s offensive scheme. He plays well through contact, he is good at getting the ball in contested catch situations, he is a tough and physical player who is also a willing pass blocker, and he is quick off of the line of scrimmage, which fits well with Rodgers who is known to get the ball out quickly.
With the addition of Pittman to pair with DK Metcalf, the Steelers now have one of the most expensive wide receiver rooms in the league, and on paper it appears that Rodgers and the offense has enough weapons to throw to this season.
