The former number one overall pick wants out of Cleveland
Four-time All-Pro, six-time Pro Bowler and NFL defensive player of the year Myles Garrett shocked the sports world on Monday when he announced that he has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. While the early reporting claims that the Browns do not plan to trade Garrett, the star defensive end has made it clear that he wants to play for a contender.
It’s rare for a star of Garrett’s caliber to become available in the NFL. The most recent example of a Garrett-like defensive end being traded is probably Khalil Mack, who was sent to the Chicago Bears by the Oakland Raiders at the cost of two first-round picks, a third-round pick and a sixth-round pick in exchange for Mack, a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick. If you want to make it simple, the cost for Mack was just under two first-round picks in net value.
So...would you do that if you’re the Green Bay Packers? The Packers’ defensive line improved greatly in terms of their ability to stop the run from 2023 to 2024, but they struggled to generate a four-man pass rush in defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s first year on the job. The addition of Garrett would certainly help a young team that has plenty of cap space available and few in-house extension options to use that money on.
So would you do it? Let us know where you draw the line on potential Garrett compensation in a trade.
