The Pittsburgh Steelers are tasked with arguably the most difficult decision of any NFL organization in this 2025 offseason—who should return as the Black and Gold signal-caller, Russell Wilson or Justin Fields?
While many have speculated that the odds favor the former, it still doesn’t make the situation for the Pittsburgh Steelers any less hazy. If Wilson, aka “Mr. Unlimited,” were to return to the Steel City, how much would the team need to pay him?
According to the Spotrac website, a popular source of information on sports finance, Wilson’s market value falls just short of a whopping $40 million per year. Ultimately, Wilson’s estimated contract value is around two years, $77.5 million.
It seems like a steep price for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Wilson did the team no favors during the five-game losing streak that closed out the 2024 regular season. As a matter of fact, many fans and analysts argued that the Steelers should have benched Wilson in favor of Fields when the offense began to struggle.
Should Wilson return to Pittsburgh, even on a discounted deal, fans should prepare for the Steelers to pay $30 to $40 million over a two- to three-year contract.
