Things were going pretty well for Will Campbell on Sunday until they weren’t.

The New England Patriots’ No. 4 overall pick this year made his regular-season debut in Sunday’s 20-13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Though he was generally good in the first half, he made a handful of mistakes in the second half, including one particularly bad false start.

Campbell gave up a pair of sacks in the second half, namely a sack he allowed with over six minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Although Rhamondre Stevenson also was culpable, offering only an ineffective chip block, Campbell didn’t allow for any deflection of blame.

“I just had to block, nobody else other than me,” Campbell said after the game, via a team-provided transcript. “Got to get better, we’ll watch the tape and learn from it and fix it.”

Campbell’s second big mistake was a 4th-and-5 false start that prompted the Patriots to change course and punt with just under five minutes left.

“I’ve just gotta be better,” Campbell said of the false start, via MassLive. “I can’t jump. I’ve gotta key into the snap count. I take full responsibility. I’ve gotta fix it.”

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said he would have to check the tape to offer a more thorough analysis of Campbell’s play.
