With three inexperienced quarterbacks, the job is open for anyone that is ready to win it.
As the New Orleans Saints get deeper into OTAs and get ready for training camp in the summer, many questions are going to rise about the quarterback position.
Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener entered OTAs in a battle for the spot, but Haener recently suffered an oblique injury and will miss the rest of OTAs.
But Moore is used to working with inexperienced quarterbacks, especially Dak Prescott in Dallas when he was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys.
Shough comes into camp as the favorite to win the job as the Black and Gold selected the Louisville QB with the 40th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
“A lot of things you can’t control,” Shough said Thursday to the media when asked about the early quarterback battle. “But you can control your preparation, your attitude, your effort — and that’s one thing I’m going to do.”
Moore had high praise for his newest quarterback, saying, “He’s a really, really prepared quarterback... He can handle NFL volume. He’s handled the playbook tremendously.”
Rattler does have starting experience in the NFL, filling in for the Saints during 2024 with he absence of Derek Carr, who retired two weeks ago after 11 seasons.
“It helps a lot just with the speed of everything, understanding what you’re going to see week in and week out,” Rattler said. “You can’t put too much pressure on yourself. It’s Year 2 — a great opportunity ahead of me.”
The quarterback battle between these three will be a lot of fun to watch as we get deeper and deeper into the heat of summer. It will arguably come down to who takes control of the offense and shows himself as a leader to the rest of the team.
Either way, there will be a young signal caller for the Black and Gold that could begin a long journey of playing for the Who Dat Nation.
