The New York Giants will hold a pair of joint practices this week with the New York Jets in advance of their preseason game this Saturday.
One of those practices will be held at the Giants’ facilities, while the other will be held at the Jets’ facilities.
According to Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll, the Giants are looking to get good, productive practices against different schemes, players, and skill sets than they’re used to seeing. He also mentioned that the two teams have been coordinating and planning these practices for some time.
“We’ve gone through situations of how we’re going to practice, what we want the tempo to be, the periods. The communication process has been good,” Daboll said. “We have an outline of how we’re going to practice in terms of the periods. When we’re going to be separate, when we’re going to be together. Usually there’s some type of one-on-one work, and I’ll be on the Giants’ offensive field, he’ll be on the Jets’ offensive field.”
So what should we be looking for when the Giants take the practice field against the Jets?
Who will be on the field?
This is the big question ahead of these practices as the Giants are dealing with a number of dings from the first two weeks of camp.
- LT Andrew Thomas remains on the PUP list as he continues to work his way back from the Lisfranc injury that ended his 2024 season. He started working with a trainer outside on the practice field, which is a step in the right direction, and it’s still expected that he’ll be ready for the start of the season. How much will he do this week?
- RG Evan Neal took all of the first-team reps with Greg Van Roten away for the birth of his baby girl. Unfortunately, Neal was held out of the game against the Bills with an undisclosed injury.
- Nickel cornerback Dru Phillips suffered a shoulder injury against the Bills and was pulled from the game a bit early. Will he be able to go?
- CB Cor’Dale Flott is competing with Tae Banks for a starting job and was holding his own before he was dinged. He didn’t play at all against the Bills — nor did Art Green or Tre Hawkins. Can he get on the field to resume the competition?
- Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt has been dealing with a hamstring injury. The Giants can use his speed down the field if they want to be more explosive, but he has to get on the field first.
- Wide receiverDarius Slayton suffered an undisclosed injury the week before the Bills game and sat out multiple practices as well as the game.
- Running back Cam Skattebo also suffered a hamstring injury as well as a setback. Will he be able to start rehab work outside? Or will he stay inside with trainers?
