We’re less than a week into the new-look Field Gulls, and I’m sure you’re wondering about why FanPosts and FanShots have been replaced with The Feed. Hopefully this post provides a little bit of clarity as far as when staff adds to The Feed, what it’s for, and how the Field Gulls community can use it.
It’s almost like a combination of the old FanPosts and FanShots rolled into one. There’s also a more prominent space on the front page for you to always see it either on desktop or mobile.
You need to be logged in with a Field Gulls account, first and foremost, to be able to add anything to The Feed.
The old-style (read: ancient) editor does not work anymore. For now, it’s a more simplified pop-up editor with the ability to do some markdown coding (e.g. **bold** or *italics*) and if you highlight text, you can use bold, italics, bullets, numbering, and blockquotes.
If you want to upload your own images or explore the GIF library, click on one of those two icons in the bottom left (as seen in the above screenshot). If you just want to embed something and not use photos or GIFs, then YouTube, Twitter/X, BlueSky, and many other social media platforms can be embedded into your post by just copying and pasting the URL.
Please note that you get one shot when you publish and there is no save function. You cannot go back and edit anything you’ve published in The Feed, but you can delete it and start all over again.
Do you like something and/or want to give it more visibility? Rec up, just as you would’ve in the FanPost/FanShot era. If a staff member gives your post a Rec, it automatically hits the front page.
From a staff standpoint, some items that used to take up article space on the front page will be moved over to The Feed. Not every “Former Seahawks players does XX” story merits a write-up when it could just be a footnote. Site updates, staffing news, community questions and engagement, etc. will go through The Feed.
From a user perspective, we are in an experimental phase but we ask that you you stay within the confines of Field Gulls’ longstanding rules of no politics, no religion, etc. But if you want to do a call for a home game meet-up, ask for people to fill up your fantasy football leagues, share an interesting YouTube video breaking down the Seahawks’ defense, even venture a bit off-topic and ask everyone what their favorite game day hangouts are, we’ll allow it. Did you meet a Seahawks player and get to take a photo with him? Sure, you can share that on The Feed if you want. Are you an artist with a really cool painting of Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s game-winning...
