Drake Maye fully intends to challenge himself during Patriots training camp, and that means challenging star cornerback Christian Gonzalez.

The second-year quarterback did that on Day 1 at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday and it led to a highlight-reel play for the offense.

Maye found third-round rookie receiver Kyle Williams on an impressive downfield completion. Williams perfectly shielded Gonzalez along the left sideline and showed strength at the catch point while hauling in the pass from Maye.

Maye lauded Williams for the contested catch, and also provided some insight into his message for Gonzalez entering camp.

“I told Gonzo earlier, I’m going to come at Gonzo,” Maye said with a chuckle. “I’m not going to leave him out here bored at practice.”

Maye surely is hoping to add to Williams’ highlight reel with more of those connections. Whether the speedy Washington State product accomplishes such a feat against New England’s Second Team All-Pro, however, has yet to be seen.
