With the Miami Dolphins in the midst of the offseason, preparing for the 2026 season, there is no denying that the new era of the team under general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley is looking to bring the franchise to the top. As Hafley looks to lock in the Dolphins and bring a new intensity, this NFL insider would theorize how the team could be the next New York Knicks.

While Miami and New York teams have usually been rivals across many sports, the Knicks captured their first NBA title in 54 years, with Albert Breer finding comparisons between the paths of the basketball team and the Dolphins. It starts with the championships both won in the 1970s, getting one superstar in the 1980s, and more.

“Okay, so here’s the Dolphins. So they had an iconic group in the early 70s that won twice. Then in the 80s, they get a singular superstar, Dan Marino in Miami, Patrick Ewing in New York, that superstar keeps getting them close. knocking on the door,” Breer said, via Conor Orr. “Then, in the 90s, they bring in an iconic coach to put them over the top, Pat Riley in New York, Jimmie Johnson in Miami. Both those guys fail to do it.”

Breer continues with the comparison with how both the Dolphins and Knicks went into “malaise” and even had a “little weird blip” in the 21st century, like Miami with the wildcat era and New York with “Linsanity.” He’d also mention how New York and Miami were perceived as destinations for free agents, but the reputations of both teams had been tarnished.

The final piece to the puzzle now relies on who can replicate Jalen Brunson’s heroics, with Breer asking if quarterback Malik Willis can fill that part.

“Then could Malik Wallace be Jalen Brunson?” Breer asked with a smile.

While it may be far-fetched, fans are hoping this new era for the Dolphins can be fruitful.
