Many young players on the New England Patriots are off to an impressive start this season. However, rookie receiver Kyle Williams hasn’t made a significant impact on the stat sheet yet.

Even though Williams isn’t producing much, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels believes he makes valuable contributions that go beyond just the stats.

“He’s doing a really good job on understanding his assignments,” McDaniels said on Thursday, via WPRI-TV’s Morgan Weaver. “I am excited when he gets his opportunity.”

New England selected the 22-year-old receiver in the third round of this past April’s draft. Williams has managed to record just two receptions for 20 yards on four targets over the course of six games.

It often takes some time for a third-round rookie receiver to adjust to performing in the NFL, so Williams will have the opportunity to figure things out.

As New England’s season unfolds, Williams must step up at some point, especially since injuries could sideline some receivers. With 11 regular season games left and postseason opportunities on the horizon, Williams might need to deliver a few game-changing plays that could ultimately determine whether the Patriots secure a victory or face defeat.
