I am not going to lie to you and tell you that I had this idea on my own. I read all the articles and The Feed as well. As I was looking through comments and such, I found two sources that I’d like to expand on, or combine if you will. Over on The Feed, Tommy Stokke has asked us if we would sign a deal right now that would pay Jones 4 years at 166 million, or 41.5 per year. Lucktastic commented on Troy’s analysis, “I think I believe” that he was surprised that no one had put out a confidence poll concerning DJ.
Since most of my contributions to the site will be based on getting the fan’s pulse, a poll seems like a good idea. Use this contract estimate from Spotrac 4 years at 166 million, or 41.5 per year.
So, lets start with the most confident fans. You have seen enough borderline great play, that you are not letting Daniel Jones walk away at the end of the year. You are not only willing to give Jones 40 – 42 million per year, you are doing your best John Malkovich and saying “Pay that man his money!” 5 years, 6 years, 50 million a year is not too much to end the cycle of not ready for prime time QBs in recent memory. Heck, he could actually get better!
Fully confident, but not to the point of putting us in cap hell with a contract that could turn into an albatross, should this just be a nice run. I’m not afraid to sign the proposed contract today.
Pretty confident, but I’m waiting another month or two before committing. I’m a little worried about whether this is really him and he does have an injury history. I wouldn’t mind opening up some talks with his agent, but I need a little more before declaring him to be my franchise QB.
Not quite so confident on the APY. He burnt the Giants when his salary increased and we don’t want to make the same mistake. If he plays well the rest of the year, franchise him for a year, then see our confidence level. This could be more of a Steichen thing than a Jones thing.
No confidence. This is a result of a weak schedule and he’s going to get hurt anyway. Other players have had good five game runs in the NFL. He’s not the first and won’t be the last to do so. Ballard’s last gasp goes sour.
By the way, thanks to the over 300 voters who say 49% say that the best use of the limited cap space, should be spent on a #2 CB. Another 26% (me included) believe that a coverage LB upgrade would be the best money spent. Thank you to all who participated!
